Multidisciplinary Pain Management Programme
The Open Practice is preparing to run a Multidisciplinary Pain Management Programme, designed to support individuals living with persistent pain to improve function, confidence and overall quality of life.
About the Programme
The Open Practice Multidisciplinary Pain Management Programme is an eight-week structured pathway designed to support people living with persistent or long-term pain.
Rather than addressing pain from a single angle, the programme brings together physiotherapy, psychological approaches, mindfulness, nutrition and lifestyle support in a coordinated, evidence-informed way.
Persistent pain is influenced by the nervous system, movement patterns, stress, sleep and overall health. By combining these elements within one programme, we aim to help people better understand their pain, improve daily function and build confidence in managing it.
The 8-week structure
Participants begin with a comprehensive triage assessment. This is followed by:
Weekly 1-to-1 physiotherapy sessions.
An 8-week ACT & Mindfulness group programme (2-2.5 hours weekly)
A group nutrition session exploring the role of inflammation and lifestyle.
All participants follow the same core structure, ensuring a consistent and integrated approach.
A Multidisciplinary Team Approach
The programme is delivered by experienced clinicians working collaboratively across disciplines, including physiotherapy, psychology, mindfulness and nutrition. This integrated model allows care to be coordinated, consistent and responsive to individual needs.
What’s Included (Core Programme)
-
Triage is conducted by a senior clinician and explores the physical, psychological and lifestyle factors contributing to your experience of pain. It allows us to ensure the programme is suitable and to identify whether any additional or alternative support may be needed.
-
Sessions focus on movement, pacing, functional goals and nervous system regulation. Rater than ‘pushing through the pain’, physiotherapy supports gradual, sustainable improvements in strength, mobility and confidence.
-
ACT and MBSR are two of the most researched psychological approaches for individuals living with persistent pain. They support improved coping, reduced distress and greater engagement in meaningful daily activity. The group setting also provides shared understanding and peer support.
-
Participants receive guidance on how diet may influence inflammation, energy levels and overall wellbeing. general principles are provided with the core programme, with the option for tailored 1-to-1 support if needed.
-
Emerging research suggests that changes in physiological patterns may precede pain flares. The wearable device supports insight into sleep, recovery and stress, helping participants better understand patterns and make informed adjustments.
Optional Additional Support
In some cases, additional input may be beneficial. These services are not part of the core programme and can be discussed during triage.
1-to-1 Nutritional Therapy
GP input (including blood tests where appropriate)
Pain Consultant Review
EMDR Therapy (particularly where trauma is linked to pain)
1-to-1 ACT or Mindfulness sessions
NeuroSym vagus nerve stimulation.
These options are tailored to individual needs and budget and will only be recommended where appropriate.

The programme is designed for adults living with persistent or long term pain that is affecting daily life, work, sleep or wellbeing. It may be appropriate for people who have tried single treatments, such as medication or physiotherapy alone, and are looking for a more integrated approach.
-
The programme is aimed at persistent or chronic pain, rather than acute injuries. This may include back pain, neck pain, fibromyalgia, widespread pain, and other long-standing pain conditions.
-
The core programme combines individual and group elements
You will receive:
Weekly 1-to-1 physiotherapy
An 8-week ACT & Mindfulness group programme
A group nutrition session
The group component offers ahred understanding and support, while individual sessions ensure care remains personalised.
-
No referral is required. You can contact us directly by completing the enquiry form
-
Triage is a comprehensive assessment conducted by a senior clinician. It explores your pain history, how it affects you, and whether the programme is appropriate.
Triage helps ensure the programme is suitable and safe for you before beginning.
-
The programme does not promise to eliminate pain. Instead, it focuses on improving understanding, increasing function, reducing distress and supporting quality of life. Many people find that by addressing pain from multiple angles, their experience of pain becomes more manageable.
-
We strongly encourage attendance at the group programme, as there is significant benefit in shared learning and peer-support.
However, in some cases alternative 1-to-1 options may be discussed during triage.
-
The core programme includes triage, physiotherapy, the group programme and nutrition sessions.
Additional services such as specialist reviews or 1-to-1 therapies are optional and discussed separately if appropriate.
-
The structured programme runs fr eight weeks.
